Meet Heather, who is neurodivergent herself (ADHD) and self-identifies autistic, is the mom of an amazingly brilliant and hilariously funny autistic young man with a suspected Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA) profile.
After years of trying to find appropriate supports for him, Heather and her husband decided to fully incorporate a PDA friendly environment in their home. The result has been life-changing.
With the combination of child-led homeschooling (unschooling) and a very low demand, low arousal approach, their family, and more importantly their son, is thriving.
Heather endeavors to educate and support professionals and families about PDA.

PDA is the abbreviation for Pathological Demand Avoidance. PDA is a profile of Autism Spectrum Disorder. It is characterized by having constant extreme anxiety that prohibits the individual from engaging with everyday demands. Pressure to comply with demands can result in fight, flight or freeze response. Along with debilitating panic attacks and meltdowns. It is best supported with compassion and a Low Demand Lifestyle.
PDA is not listed as a diagnosis in the current Diagnostic Manual. It can be recognized and accepted by a professional that has an understanding of the PDA profile. PDA is often "self-identified" as it is not widely known by professionals. This is why it is important to advocate and educate on PDA.
As a Certified PDA Trainer, I am available for one-on-one coaching, educational consultations. I can offer support, compassion and understanding for families or individuals looking for a deeper understanding of autism and PDA profile.

An Individualized Education Program (IEP) is a written plan that outlines a child's learning goals and support services to help them succeed in school. A 504 plan is a legal document that provides support and accommodations for students with disabilities in schools.
The IEP and 504 process can de difficult for parents to navigate. Understanding adequate goals, supports and accommodations can be challenging. With out proper supports many students are unable to access learning. Through an educational consultation you can learn about best practices and supports to help students succeed.
Home education can feel overwhelming with many approaches and curriculums available. Get professional recommendations on supporting your learner.
